Range Bands

I thought "a lot of people must have a hard time estimating distances, i know it happens at my table a lot."  I should get a better feel for the reality of the Range categories in this game. If for no other reason than just to have as a helpful reference.

I cracked open my book and a spreadsheet. I figured i would start by outlining the most clearly defined real measurements. I didn't get far before i realized i was going to have to make a couple of assumptions to get more than just a few 'clearly defined' measurements.
My relevant assumptions were as follows.
A few = 3 (a pretty standard assumption i think)
Several = 6 (smack dab in the middle of a few and a dozen)
I went back to my task of seeing what i could gleam from the book.
numbers with an "a" in front like "a6000" means i used one of my assumptions. Where no clear number was indicated and no assumption was really possible i left a question mark.

as you can see... the book was not very helpful in regards to real numbers (it's ok.. it's supposed to be narrative!)

so, this didn't seem like it would be much help in giving people a better way to estimate range bands.
I did some looking into real life distances for; line of sight, voice travel, 'modern' dogfights, artillery weapons and some other things. I used some of this information to help estimate some more distances. After i had filled in some more numbers i did some comparing of ranges across the different scales. I tried to leave all the 'hard' numbers from the book as they were. Then i filled them out in a way that made as much sense as i could manage.

So for those who have a hard time Estimating distances or really don't understand the range bands.
I present to you, my best effort at giving you some hard numbers to use as a guide when determining range.

a couple of my basic guidelines

In case anyone out there might be wondering how I decide on some of my Silhouette and Speed choices I have provided a chart below.
I started by taking the known sizes of all of the published ships, finding the published minimum and maximum length for each Silhouette. Then I played with the numbers until all the ships fit into a nice progression going up to the largest SHIP (i figured i would throw out the statistical outliers like the death star and other ridiculously insanely huge things). the result was the Silhouette  to approximate size (length) chart below.
Obviously this is just a guideline to which there are exceptions. However this guideline helps to keep my decisions as well as the relative representation of ships size, consistent.

Blah blah blah, similar process and result for speed.

New Vehicle Attachments

I have redesigned the Speeder bike rack.
In order to keep things relatively simple i broke it in to two separate attachments.
a Speeder Bike RACK (for carrying a fixed number of bikes externally) and a Speeder Bike Deployment System (a modifiable system designed for internal bike storage and deployment).

Updated the Compact Retrofitted Hanger Bay for better balance. (mostly just takes up more of your ships space).

Added an attachment version of the ANQ 3.6 tracking system present in Enter the Unknown but only available on the A-36 Pathfinder. Not exactly an original idea, i know, but sometimes it just helps to have it listed, or you forget that it could be an option.

Sensor Array Amplifier (extends sensor range) added so you can see whats out there before it sees you.

Cargo Pods and Twin Cargo Pods added. Add a little more storage when you need to, or add a lot just because.

Probably the most interesting and most difficult piece I've been working on.
Hard Point Refit.
not strictly an "attachment" but I didn't really know where else to put it at the moment.
Basically this is just a mechanic and system for converting some of that extra Encumbrance capacity your ship has, into a more useful Hard Point. Be careful though, or you'll spread your ship thin and find yourself in trouble.

Check out all of these in more detail here, Vehicle Attachments (normally found in the Depot).
